Well you'll need a few more tools if you really wanna experience Ice Fishing in Montreal. Here's brief list
- Auger ( to punch the holes) 4-5 inch auger does the trick if you're fishing for small perch, walleye and pike)
- Bait bucket (insulated) make sure its big enough to support enough minnows for your day and can be used as a seat
- Tip UPS (rods made from wood that tip up when a fish bites) you can usually get packs of 10 in Quebec for about $30) Make sure to check your local
regulations for lines allowed in the water.
- Hot chocolate or tea
- Great mitts or gloves, should be water proof ( I'd suggest Ice Armor brand)
- ice scoop to clean your holes with
- Live minnows if allowed ( small to medium) extra large for those huge pike or muskies
- camera to document your fun and success, so they believe you .
- warm boots and clothing, a 1 piece long underwear is great to wear
- a partner or buddy to share the work and day with
After acquiring or borrowing these items you will need to plan where to
fish.
- Try spots you've had success with in other seasons.
- Find a place where the kids can play at safe distance
- Make it feel like your a thousand miles from nowhere
Lastly we always remember experiences that offer an emotional charge.Ice Fishing can
offer this, especially if you find that hot spot. On a great day 50-75 fish can be caught, it the lake or river is covered in lots of snow you'll feel the work out from all that
running in the following days.
I've spent my past 3 seasons Ice Fishing and this one has been far been the best in terms of fish caught, species caught and
beautiful days witnessed. Montreal, Quebec offers amazing urban fishing within 15-30 minutes from downtown. I catch myself laughing and being thankful for having
this option. I can go from urban center to great outdoors in no time and experience amazing fishing.
We catch perch, walleye, pike, muskie, white fish, and in
some cases a wicked hang over. The benefits of enjoying the great outdoors in the winter are great memories, exercise, dinner, and being with friends and family. Ice
fishing is an inexpensive sport to help enjoy the winter more. If you don't want to buy these items, there are tons of small businesses that rent chalets or huts with all
the needed tools and bait for usually under $15 per person.
So get out and try ice fishing, there is no better way to enjoy a day on a lake and see a beautiful
sunset, catch some fish and learn a new skill.
